MONTONICO'S HISTORY
During the first years of the last century this white wine was very appriciated and it had a great commerce on the foreign countries (especially in Germany.).
But contemprary to the slow decline of Bisenti, there had been a slow decline of the commerce.
In 1980, there had been a rebirth of Montonico thanks to a group of people commanded by Francesco Valente, well known as Ciccillo, who first created Amimont Association (Amici del Montonico, friends of Montonico), and then the wine cooperative Montonico. Ciccillo founded the wine cellar which is pratically the only one which produced this kind of wine. Today the cooperative counts about 30 associates, all producers, and they have about 10 hectares of vine (in the land between Bisenti and Cervignano). The production amounts about of 250 quintals. Every years they produce 15000 bottles of Montonico and 7000 bottles of Cerbis' sparkling wine.
